Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower, symbol of Paris

With a design created by Gustave Eiffel, the construction of the Eiffel Tower lasted just over two years and it worked 250 workers.

Initially the tower was controversial: the artists of the moment considered monstrous and, given its low profitability at the end of the exhibition, to demolish the possibility was raised on different occasions.

In the early twentieth century, with the arrival of world wars, authorities found their usefulness as broadcasting antenna and with it captured messages that helped the allies decisively.

Today, thanks to the rise of Paris as an international tourist destination, the Eiffel Tower is the most visited monument in the world with more than 7 million visitors a year.

Climb the Eiffel Tower

Except for those who suffer from vertigo, climb the Eiffel Tower is a unique experience virtually mandatory for all visitors to Paris.

You can access both the tower elevator and the stairs, but before deciding on the second option is necessary to know that it is 1665 steps.

Using the stairs is accessible only to the first two floors of the tower. Although the price of the stairs is somewhat lower, unless question of challenging the difference is not worth it.

The best times to climb the tower are the first thing in the morning when not yet been formed long lines or at dusk to enjoy the city of lights in all its glory.

Eiffel Tower our days

In 2002, the limit of 200 million notes is exceeded and in 2004 becomes the 5th most visited monument in France.

On January 1, 2006, a new administration period of 10 years is open, the dealer is the mixed economy company SETE (Operating Company of the Eiffel Tower), although 60% of capital is held by the city of Paris .

Of all the monuments of Paris, one can say that the Eiffel Tower is one of the few that far to hold unswervingly to the passage of evolving time and innovates, either with changes in the color of the paint, either with lighting effects. When it was opened to the public in May 1889 they visited until the end of the year about 2 million people; currently it receives more than 7 million visitors a year. Since its opening and the end of 2005 are being counted more than 220 million visitors.
