The Trevi Fountain is the most beautiful fountain in Rome

Trevi Fountain

The Trevi Fountain is the most beautiful fountain in Rome. With dimensions of 20 meters wide by 26 meters high, the Trevi Fountain is also the largest source of the city.

The origins of the source back to the year 19 B.C., when the Fontana was the end of the Aqua Virgo aqueduct. The first fountain was built during the Renaissance, under the orders of Pope Nicholas V.

The final aspect of the Trevi Fountain dates from 1762 when, after several years of work hand Nicola Salvi, was completed by Giuseppe Pannini.

Curiously, the Trevi name derives from Tre Vie (three-way), since the source was the meeting point of three streets.

The myth of the Trevi Fountain
Why are there always people throwing coins in the Trevi water and taking pictures?

The myth, born with the movie "Three Coins in the Fountain" in 1954, reads as follows:

If you throw a coin: you will return to Rome.
If you throw two coins: you will find love with a beautiful Italian (or Italian).
If you throw three coins: you marry the person you knew.
For this to work it is advisable to toss the coin with the right hand over the left shoulder.

A curious fact, each year approximately one million euros from the source is removed. Since 2007 this money is used for charitable purposes.

The most beautiful fountain in the world
For us the Trevi Fountain is the world's most beautiful fountain. Both under daylight, as illuminated with warm light at night, the fountain is never without company.

One point that often cloud the time of the visit, is that the area is full of people trying to sell roses in an overwhelming way, but just ignore them to continue to enjoy such a special place.
